Freestyle
Feature Film Score
I was commissioned by Film London in collaboration with the BBC to compose the original score for this teen drama set in the world of freestyle basketball. The film was subsequently distributed by Revolver Entertainment.
The Story
Freestyle follows a young protagonist navigating the high-energy world of street basketball, where athletic skill meets urban culture. The film captures the rhythm and intensity of the sport while telling a coming-of-age story about ambition, friendship, and finding your place in the world.
The Musical Approach
The score needed to capture the energy and rhythm of freestyle basketball, a sport that’s as much about style and self-expression as it is about athleticism. I blended contemporary urban sounds with orchestral elements, creating a sonic world that could move between the adrenaline of competition and the more intimate moments of the drama. The music draws on hip-hop influences while maintaining its own cinematic identity.
Production
Working with Film London on this project was an exciting opportunity to score a feature film aimed at young audiences.
